New parenthood during a pandemic
It is always hard to adjust to a new life. When one becomes a parent for the first time, it is an exhilarating and exhausting experience. One that will transform your life forever. When I was expecting my first, I spent months reading books, taking classes, visiting baby stores and dreaming about parenthood. When she was born I realized none of it prepared me for the pain of exhaustion or the overwhelming love.
New parents now, during a pandemic, can still read the book, but the classes are cancelled, the stores are closed and you can’t even sit and listen to stories about babies from your friends and family. New parents are more isolated and alone, without resources and help. They feel less prepared since all the classes have been cancelled. After the baby comes friends and family can’t drop by, it’s scary to hire someone and scary just to leave the house and go grocery shopping!
Thankfully there are great options. I have an upcoming virtual breastfeeding class- limited to 10 couples so sign up early- and a free weekly breastfeeding meetup. I do private classes or prenatal appointments too. There are a lot of great resources like Mothering Arts and Petaluma Mother’s Club that have virtual and online means of supporting parents during this transition (see my resources page for website info for both).
It is always overwhelming to become a parent. Nothing else in life changes you in every aspect of your life. Yet I don’t know a parent that says every second of it is worth it. Parenthood is amazing. I am honored to assist families during this huge transition. Contact me today for virtual support from anywhere. And find some virtual support for other aspects of being a new parent too.
